Quantity of plants tested: 15
Size of plant tested: small plants which were started from seed in May 2000.
Soil texture: sandy loam with granite peastone cover.
When planted: the plant was planted in the ground in June 2000.
Winter protection: no protection.
Microclimate: warm microclimate, approximately 3 feet off a south facing wall.
Temperature: refer to 2000-2001 winters on this chart
Findings: the plants died.

stomatium_niveum_flower.JPG (25176 bytes) October 5, 2000 - This photo shows the plant flowering.  Flowers open up at dusk, that's why this photo is not very good.
stomatium_niveum-2.jpg (27705 bytes) December 2, 2000 - This photo shows some of the plants in early December.  The plant appears highly damaged already.  The low temperatures so far have been 12F, 14F, and 14F.  No damage was observed after the first time down to 19F.
