Quantity of plants tested: 2 plants
Size of plant tested: both plants are about 4yr old with large strap leaves
Soil texture: sandy loam and covered with 2" pine bark mulch.
When planted: the plants were planted in the ground in July 2002.
Winter protection: None.
Microclimate: average microclimate, not the coldest spot nor the warmest spot, located about 7 feet off an east facing wall.
Temperature: refer to 2002-2003 winters on this chart
Findings: both plants were toasted after the first night to 5F in early November.
