Quantity of plants tested: 1 plant
Size of plant tested: the plants was about 4" tall
Soil texture: sandy loam and covered with granite peastone mulch.
When planted: the plant was planted in the ground in August 2003.
Winter protection: None.
Microclimate: warm microclimate located about 4 feet off a south facing wall.
Temperature: refer to 2002-2003 winters on this chart
Findings: the plant was toasted after the first night in the upper teens in early November.

pachyphytum bracteosum 2002 dec8r.jpg (70749 bytes) December 8, 2002 - This photo shows the same plant a few weeks later after many hard freezes and even a night in the single digits.  It was damaged when temps dropped to 20F or just below.  There was no damage after a 23F night.
