of plants tested: 2 Size of plant tested: 1st year seedlings which were less than 1ft tall by November 2000. Soil texture: sandy loam and covered with 2" pine bark mulch. When planted: the seedling were planted in the ground in July 2000. Winter protection: None. Microclimate: Planted in cold microclimate, one received about 2hr of sun in the winter, while the other received no winter sun. Temperature: refer to 2000-2001 winter on this chart Findings: one of the two plants died. |

April 4, 2001 - This photo shows the smaller plant in spring. Notice the most juvenile leaves are totally burnt, but the larger leaves are only partially burnt. The larger specimen died and did not return from the roots. |
