of plants tested: 1 Size of plant tested: 1ft diameter mound. Soil texture: planted in a loamy sand covered with yellow stone. When planted: the plant was planted in the ground in June 1999. Winter protection: none Microclimate: it was planted in a warm microclimate, approximately 4 feet off a south facing wall. Temperature: refer to 1999-2000 winter on this chart Findings: the plant died, not very hardy here in Rhode Island. |

February 24, 2000 - here's the dead plant. Most of the plant was dead by January 1. The low temperature before January 1 was 10F. A cutting from the same plant which was placed under a plastic tarp preformed much better, but still died. The tarp may have added 2 weeks to it's life. |
