of plants tested: 2 Size of plant tested: seedlings started in May 2000. Soil texture: sandy loam covered with granite pea stone. When planted: the plants were planted in the ground in June 2000. Winter protection: no protection. Microclimate: warm microclimate, approximately 3 feet off a south facing wall. Temperature: refer to 2000-2001 winters on this chart Findings: both plants died. They did well for some time, but our long, cold, wet winters got to them. |

December 23, 2000 - here's the plant as of December 23, 2000. The plant has not received any damage so far. The low temperature without snow cover has been 5F. There were many days with high temperatures below 32F. |

December 29, 2000 - here's the status a few days later, notice how the plant is now damaged. December 25 was very cold with highs in the teens and a low of 6F. Perhaps they can't take prolong cold below 20F. |
