of plants tested: 1 Size of plant tested: smaller plant, 4" pot size. Soil texture: sandy loam When planted: the plant was planted in soil in August 1999. Winter protection: no protection. Microclimate: warm microclimate, about 3 ft from south facing wall. Temperature: refer to 1999-2000 winter on this chart Findings: the plant died. It died very early in the winter too. We estimate it's hardiness on the east coast to 25F or so, perhaps a little colder during brief cold spells. |

February 24, 2000 - This photo shows the dead plant on February 24, 2000. We observed the entire plant turn soft and brown after the first night down to 23F in fall. This plant does not appear to be a havardiana even though it was labeled as such. |
